Travel Soccer Program
Travel soccer is designed for players U-9 and above who possess the interest and ability to play the game of soccer and compete at a higher level. HSC’s goals and objectives for players at this level focus on attitude, developing skills and good work habits, instilling a passion for the game, and having fun. Travel soccer challenges players to realize their highest potential through more intensive training, higher levels of competition, and more games. Boys play in the Delaware County Soccer League (DELCO). Girls play in the Philadelphia Area Girls Soccer League (PAGS). U9 teams participate in the Central League, focused in the I495/Route 30 corridor so that our younger players can concentrate on soccer and not be distracted by traveling.
Interested players attend tryouts in the spring. All interested players must register before attending tryouts, there is a $5 fee for the tryout. The U13/U14/U15 age groups also offer Elite teams, which play year round. Any player interested in this level of competitive play should be sure to register for the Elite tryout in their age group. Everyone who tries out will be notified if he/she is chosen for a team or not. If a player is accepted on a team the commitment is for one year although not all teams participate in practices/games year-round. All forms will be collected after a player has accepted a position on a team.
Typically, after teams are formed in late spring, practices start in the summer. Most teams hold a team training week in August. Beginning in September and lasting through the fall, teams usually have one practice, one training session and one game per week. Boys play on Saturdays. Girls play after noon on Sundays (to accommodate religious commitments). Regular travel teams may or may not participate in winter leagues or in spring soccer. Most teams participate in at least two tournaments.
Currently, the registration fee for Haverford Soccer Club travel programs is $235. The fee covers team registration with DELCO or PAGS soccer league, 6-1.5 hour training sessions, field maintenance and referee fees. Uniforms are not included in the registration fee but run less than $100. Tournament fees, team week and other training sessions are not included in the registration fee. If a team decides to participate in winter or spring play those fees are extra as well.
